Course summary
The objective of the programme is to enable candidates to transfer educational/child developmental theories into practice which provide wide-ranging multi-media and developmentally-appropriate learning experience to young children. It also enables them to be skillful in observation and to apply their knowledge of child development to designing a learning environment that meets the needs of each individual child. The programme helps students to design, implement and evaluate learning environment and activities based on the curriculum framework and desired outcomes of pre-school education.

The modules are Philosophy of Early Childhood Education, History and Tenets; Human Growth and Development/ The Developing Child; Introduction to Special Needs; Educational Psychology; Overview Course on Observations, Planning, Implementation, Assessment and Evaluation; Understanding and Presenting the Physical Environment; Language and Literacy; Mathematics: Numeracy Skills; Science: Environmental Awareness; Aesthetics and Creative Expression; Art and Craft; Music and Movement; Self and Social Development; Perceptual, Fine and Gross Motor Skills Development: Children’s Play; Positive Guidance Practices and Classroom Management; Programme Planning: Integrated and Developmentally Appropriate Curriculum for Early Childhood; Resources and the Early Years Learning Environment; Programme Planning: Integrated-Curriculum for Early Childhood and Practicum Studies; Personal Growth and Professional Development; Safety, Health and Nutrition; Partnership with Families and Community; Vocational Placement 1; Vocational Placement 2.
Entry requirement for international students
Applicant must be current MOE or MCYS registered teachers and have completed at least 12 years of formal education; and passed an examination conducted by the country/ state with credits in five different subjects including EL1. Applicants without a credit in EL1 need to obtain a minimum band 5.5 in IELTS-General Training for entry to the DECCE-T course. New teachers must have completed at least 12 years of formal education; and passed an examination conducted by the country/ state with credits in five different subjects including EL1. Applicants from English speaking countries (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK and USA) with medium of instructions for their formal education in English and grade in EL1 obtained in a national/ state examination is 50 per cent mark or grade C, whichever is higher. Applicants from other countries with medium instructions for their formal education in English and complete the IELTS-General Training with band score of 6.5 and above.
