Course summary
This programme is designed to equip preschool teachers with the necessary skills for effective teaching and planning. It is accredited by Ministry of Education - Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports Pre-school Qualification Accreditation Committee (MOE-MCYS PQAC). At the end of the course, students will be able to: provide an overview of the preschool and national education systems in Singapore and their desired outcomes; analyse their roles in the facilitation and scaffolding of children’s learning in the early years; understand educational considerations that help various exceptional needs children to be more successful in their learning; recognise the importance of including Parents and the Community in the care and education of young children; recognise the importance of safety, health, hygiene and nutrition aspects in the care and education of young children.
Program modules
The modules include Principles and Practices in Early Childhood Care and Education; Child Development and Learning; Curriculum Planning and Pedagogy; Personal Growth and Professional Development: The Reflective Practitioner; Safety, Health, Hygiene and Nutrition; Partnership with Families and the Community; Supervised Teaching Practicum.
Entry requirement for international students
Applicants should have completed at least 12 years of formal education. They should have passed an examination conducted by the country/state with credits in five different subjects including EL1. Applicants from English speaking countries (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK and the US) should have obtained Grade in EL1 obtained in a national or state examination is equivalent to a C6 in the GCE 'O' level examination; and medium of instruction of their formal education is English. Applicants from other countries must obtain a minimum band 6.5 in IELTS prior to entry and medium of instruction of their formal education is English.
