Course summary
The objective of the programme is to encourage cross-disciplinary research in the field of Chinese studies; to utilise research methodologies of both the east and the west; and to focus on research of the region, greater China and Chinese overseas. The main areas of research includes Chinese literature, language, history and philosophy, Chinese overseas and their languages, culture and history and cultural studies of China and Singapore.

The modules include: HC7101 Graduate Seminar; HC7001 Special Topics in Selected Historical Personages of Singapore and Malaysia; HC7002 Special Topics in the Singapore Chinese Intellectual; HC7003 Special Topics in Chinese Overseas and Their Relations with China; HC7004 Special Topics in Chinese Oral Literature; HC7005 Special Topics in Pre-Modern Chinese Literature; HC7006 Special Topics in Modern/Contemporary Chinese Literature; HC7007 Study of Gao Xingjian; HC7008 Special Topics in Contrastive Language Analysis; HC7009 Modern Linguistics Theories in their Applications in the Study of the Chinese Language; HC7010 Special Topics in Pre-Modern Chinese; HC7011 The End of the Chinese Middle Ages; HC7012 Research and Methodology; HC7888 Directed Reading.
Entry requirement for international students
Admission to the programme requires a good bachelor's degree in humanities, social sciences, or a relevant field from a recognised university; demonstrated ability to pursue research in the candidate's proposed field of advanced study. Also students whose mother tongue is not English, TOEFL score of at least 580 is required. Test dates must be within two years or less from the date of application.
