Course summary
This programme emphasises a balance of skills-based/practice orientation and academic rigour. It also allows specialisation in different areas of counselling, and provides training in supervisory skills to enable the graduates to take on leadership roles or become domain experts. It also offers flexibility in entry and exit points to suit different academic needs. Bridging courses will help those without prior counselling training to be initiated into the masters programme. Students also have the option to exit with a graduate diploma.
Program modules
The modules include Human Growth and Life Span Development, Group dynamics and Group Facilitation, Theories and Techniques of Counselling, Professional Studies, Clinical Assessment in Counselling, Ethics and Skills in Multicultural Counselling, Research and Evaluation in Counselling, Couples and Family Therapy, Integrative approach to Counselling, Clinical Supervision in Counselling, Counselling Special Populations, elective: Psychotherapy with Children and Adolescents, Gerontological Counselling, Understanding Psychotherapy with Children and Intervention Strategies, Behaviour Therapy, Theories and practice in Addiction Counselling, Crisis Intervention, Dissertion or 2 electives in lieu of dissertion.
Entry requirement for international students
Applicants should be 21 years and above with a high level of motivation. They should have an undergraduate degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution with at least two years of work experience. Also they are expected to have good communication skills both in written and spoken mode.
