Course summary
This course aims to help workers in the social service sector to be better equipped with the necessary knowledge about suicide, as well as the assessment and intervention skills to handle such cases. In the course of counselling, students may come across clients, who have suicidal ideation and even have history of attempting suicide. It is important for all people helpers to be equipped with the essential knowledge about suicide, as well as learning the necessary assessment and intervention skills to handle such clients. All counsellors, social workers, pastors, volunteers and pastoral workers in social service sectors should attend this course. Participants who meet 75 per cent class attendance will be awarded a Certificate of Accomplishment by the Academy of Human Development.

Course contents: Definition of suicide, Myths and facts about suicide, Characteristics of high risk groups, Warning signs of suicide, 4 basic attitudes towards life and death, Assessment of suicide risk level, Intervention of suicide, Suicide and law, Aftercare issues and Self-care issues.
