Course summary
This program is designed to allow those students who have or will have an accredited bachelor's degree in a major other than nursing prior to matriculation to take the nursing courses required to get a B.S. with a major in nursing and then continue into the master level courses that are required to achieve a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner MS degree. Students on this track are concurrently accepted to the ABS program and the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program, and will start the master's coursework after completing the required courses necessary to achieve the B.S. degree and passing the nursing licensure exam. At the completion of the Bachelor of Science Nursing curriculum, the B.S. degree is awarded and graduates are eligible for professional registered nurse licensing examinations. The graduate program coursework begins in the fall term, following successful completion of the B.S. degree and nursing licensure exam (NCLEX).
Entry requirement for international students
Applicants must have a bachelor's degree prior to matriculation into the nursing program in order to be eligible for admission. Applicants must have completed at least one term of Anatomy and Physiology by the end of fall term and have a reasonable plan to complete all prerequisite coursework prior to matriculation. Applications cannot be reviewed until updated transcripts with A and P I grades are received. Applicants must submit GRE Scores (combined Verbal and Quantitative scores above 1000). Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Applicants must submit 3 professional references. Applicants are evaluated on the cumulative GPA from all previous coursework. All applications are reviewed by the undergraduate and graduate faculty admissions committees and must meet minimum GPA requirements. Prerequisite courses – Applicants must complete the following with a grade “B” or better: Human Anatomy and Physiology - Year long series with lab; Nutrition - One course; Human Growth and Development - lifespan - One course; Microbiology, with lab - One course; Introduction to Genetics - One course or a module within a course; Statistics - One course; this course must have been taken within the last 5 years.
