Course summary
The Accelerated Bachelor’s to Master’s Program in Bioinformatics permits selected students majoring in bioinformatics to earn the Bachelor of Science and master’s degrees in a minimum of five years by taking certain graduate level courses during the senior year of their undergraduate program. The program is restricted to students with strong credentials and a clear interest in a career in the field of bioinformatics.
Entry requirement for international students
Admission to an undergraduate degree program requires graduation from a secondary school or the equivalent (lyceum, senior middle school, university preparatory school, completion of GCSE exams, Standard 12 graduation, etc.), which normally consists of at least 12 years beyond kindergarten. VCU also requires students to have completed the following academic units by the final year of their high-school curriculum: mathematics, natural science, history or social science, and English or foreign language. Applicants requiring F- or J-visas who are coming to the United States for full-time study or transferring from one academic institution to another for the purpose of study must have sufficient funds immediately available to meet all anticipated needs for the first year of study and reasonable expectations that funds will be available, when needed, for study beyond the first year. All applicants who have not studied in an English-speaking country must take the (TOEFL) offered by the Educational Testing Service in countries throughout the world, or (IELTS) and arrange for the testing agency to send the test results to VCU. The required TOEFL score is 550 (213 for computer-based exams) and IELTS is 6.0. Students who have not taken a TOEFL exam or have not achieved the required score may take the VCU English Language Placement Exam on arrival.
