Course summary
This program offers a wide range of courses in many fields which allows students to shape their degree schedule based on their interests and goals. The concentration in English Education prepares future teachers to meet the literacy challenges of the future by providing a rich and diverse education. Students study literature, writing, and other language arts with outstanding professors; learn how to integrate the most current technology into the teaching of English; and work with other highly motivated and creative students. Michigan Tech English Education majors have a highly competetive edge in the national job market - valuable experience using computer-based environments to enhance instruction in literature, composition, and communication. Upon graduation, they can teach in public or private high schools and middle schools, become writers or editors, teach in literacy programs, or become corporate trainers. They will also be prepared for graduate school or positions in technology fields. After demonstrating progress in the major, students apply to the Department of Education and continue their studies in specialized courses. To enhance their preparation as teachers, students are also required to choose an education minor, and upon passing state certification tests will be certified to teach in two disciplines.
