Course summary
This program prepares graduates for various entry-level positions in the information system field with a balanced overview of technology in the major core. Students are encouraged to work with their advisors to design a program in their area of interest and their technology-related certifications, which may be in Microsoft networking, Cisco networking, or other technical disciplines. It will: assist students in developing the problem-solving skills needed to adapt technology to meet the needs of business; provide students with methods to analyze, design, implement and maintain computer-based information systems to support the decision-making function of management; prepare students to secure positions commensurate with their information technology specialty core; provide a balanced curriculum that addresses fundamental knowledge and skills related to business, programming, operating systems, and databases in business environments; encourage students to participate in continuing education activities and maintain professional memberships; continuously measure key student-learning outcomes. Graduates of the program will install, maintain, and troubleshoot current networking technologies including local area networks, wide area networks, the Internet, and the hardware and software used in constructing a network infrastructure; implement and manage commonly used computer operating systems, including both proprietary and open source systems; examine, install, and configure the hardware associated with personal computer systems; design, implement, and manage a network infrastructure to support management and production functions in business or industry; apply ethical decision-making models in the information technology environment.
Entry requirement for international students
Students who are not native speakers of English must have an official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score report with a minimum score of 500 paper-based, 173 computer based or 61 Internet-based; provide an official transcript that indicates completion of a post-secondary program of at least two years in length with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0/4.0; provide an official International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score report with an overall minimum score of 5.5; provide evidence of completion of two semesters (or equivalent) of college-level English (excluding ESL courses) with a grade of C or higher at an accredited college or university whose language of instruction is English; provide evidence of English language proficiency as deemed appropriate by National American University.
