Course summary
This program focuses on policing practices, corrections, the criminal court system and juvenile justice. Students take a comprehensive look at these topics through interactive assignments that not only develop their critical thinking skills, but also enable them to recognize the functions of the criminal justice professions within their communities.
Program modules
The modules are as follows: CJS210 Fundamentals of Policing, CJS220 the Court System, CJS230 Corrections: A World Apart, CJS240 Introduction to Juvenile Justice, and CJS250 Introduction to Security.
Entry requirement for international students
Applicant must have earned a high school diploma, GED, California High School Proficiency Examination certificate, or foreign secondary school equivalent. Applicants who do not currently meet this requirement can arrange to take the GED through their state GED administrator's office or search for the nearest GED testing center. They can be currently employed and if not, they must have access to an organizational environment that allows them to apply the concepts they learn in their courses. They can be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or hold an approved, valid visa if attending a campus located in the United States. Students should pass the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC), the Berlitz Online English Proficiency Exam or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) if the student is a non-native speaker of English.
