Course summary

This program provides students a foundation of knowledge relating to the management of human services organizations. It offers an understanding of the roles of human services workers, public policy, multicultural practices, information technology, financial management and regulatory and ethical issues. Coursework in the concentration courses includes creating care plans, developing alternative funding strategies and determining the characteristics of good human services management.

Program modules

The modules are as follows: HSM210 Human Services in the United States, HSM220 Human Services Administration, HSM230 Ethical Issues in Human Services Organizations, HSM240 Public Policy Development in Human Services, HSM260 Financial Management for Human Service Managers, HSM270 Program Planning and Grant Proposal Writing in Human Services.

Entry requirement for international students

Applicant must have earned a high school diploma, GED, California High School Proficiency Examination certificate, or foreign secondary school equivalent. Applicants who do not currently meet this requirement can arrange to take the GED through their state GED administrator's office or search for the nearest GED testing center. They can be currently employed and if not, they must have access to an organizational environment that allows them to apply the concepts they learn in their courses. They can be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or hold an approved, valid visa if attending a campus located in the United States. Students should pass the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC), the Berlitz Online English Proficiency Exam or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) if the student is a non-native speaker of English.
