Course summary
This degree program designed to prepare students to become pharmacy technicians. According to the California Board of Pharmacy, “a pharmacy technician is an individual who, under the direct supervision and control of a pharmacist, performs packaging, manipulative, repetitive, or other non-discretionary tasks related to the processing of a prescription in a licensed pharmacy, but exclude all functions restricted to a registered pharmacist”. This program provides instruction, didactic and experiential, to individuals in order to prepare them to assist pharmacists in all aspects of pharmacy practice; To develop proficiency in technical skills necessary to enable the graduate to utilize technology in the health care setting; and, To prepare individuals to become integral members of the health care team. Graduates are eligible to take the examination for national certification, the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE). Upon passing the national certification examination, the pharmacy technician may use the Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential.

Entry requirement for international students
Students should have a minimum 2.0 GPA with a High School diploma, GED or the equivalent. They have to submit official transcripts from all institutions previously attended. Students have to submit an one-page typed personal statement delineating reasons for wanting to become a substance abuse counselor and/or personal aspirations in applying. They should have one year of sobriety for individuals in recovery. Students will have a Personal interview with the selection committee.
