Course summary

This program is unique among the social sciences in exploring humanity in all its aspects, past and present. It provides a broad understanding of the similarities and differences in the human experience through time and space. This vast subject matter is divided up into four subfields: cultural, linguistic, archaeological, and biological (also known as physical) anthropology. Each of these in turn covers a wide array of topics: cultural anthropology explores contemporary and historical diversity among people; linguistic anthropology describes how languages are structured and used; archaeological anthropology studies the material remains of past human cultures; biological anthropology examines human evolution and human biological diversity.

Program modules

The modules are: ANTH 110 Introduction to Cultural Anthropology, ANTH 120 Introduction to Biological Anthropology, ANTH 130 Introduction to Archaeology, ANTH 140 Introduction to Linguistics, ANTH 214 Anthropological Theory, ANTH 220 Biology and Culture, ANTH 221 Human Osteology or ANTH 222 Ethnography or ANTH 230 Method and Theory in Archaeology, ANTH 250 Applied Anthropology, SOCI 110 Elementary Statistics, SOLI 130 Principles of Demography.

Entry requirement for international students

Students must have official transcripts of CSC, CXC, GCE, WASC, CGSE or official final secondary school records, results from the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Test Assessment (ACT), international students from non-English speaking country must have scores from Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
