Course summary
This program prepares students for careers in teaching art in grades pre K-12 as well as for work in museums, alternative schools, and other human services professions. Graduates are expected to be broadly knowledgeable about how and why the visual arts interact with the process of education for the betterment of individuals and our society. The art education curriculum reflects the standards for art teacher preparation established by the National Art Education Association, the major professional group in this discipline. Course work has been organized so students receive a broad-based liberal education, a solid foundation in the visual arts, and conceptually-based course work in teacher education that focuses on an inquiry-oriented approach to teaching.
