Program modules

The requirements for a major in Art History for the B.A.degree are as follows: 42 hours. ARH 201, 202, 290, 308; 6 hours of studio art to be chosen from ART 101,102, 111, 112; HST 101,102; 18 hours in art history at the 300-400 level. No more than 3 hours of ARH 491 may be counted toward the major. To complete a double major in art history and studio art, a student must complete ART 101, 102, 111 or 112, 211, and 27 hours chosen from at least three different studio areas.

Entry requirement for international students

Students should have a graduation from an accredited secondary school. They must meet minimum course requirements as established by the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina system. The course requirements should include the following: four course units in English, two course units in foreign language, four course units of mathematics, three course units in science and two course units in social science. A minimum 2.5 GPA on a U.S. scale of 4.0 is required. English proficiency is required of international applicants and is proven by one of the following: minimum score TOEFL should be 71 on the Internet-based exam, 197 on the computer-based exam, or 525 on the paper-based exam; minimum score of IELTS is 6.5 on the academic module; SAT-I Critical Reading score of 450 or higher; ACT reading section score of 20 or higher; Successful completion of UNCW’s ESL program, prior to applying; Having lived in the U.S. for 4 years or more and completion of 2 college-level courses of English composition at a U.S. college or university with a grade of B or better.
