Course summary
This program is an experimental science and students are encouraged to carry out independent research projects under faculty supervision. This program is illustrated by the breadth of the research interests of the faculty associated with the program of study. These interests range from biophysics and biophysical chemistry through molecular and cellular biology. A well trained biochemist must have an excellent grounding in the physical sciences as well as in biology.

Entry requirement for international students
Students must meet the following preparatory courses: 16 units, including four of English, three of mathematics (including precalcu¬lus), three of science (including one of biology, and one of chemistry or physics) and also recommended: an additional unit of advanced mathematics and science. Students should have completed at least 55 credits, with a minimum of 30 earned at Cornell, and who have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Students seeking admission must have the equivalent of an American high school education at the time of admission. International students whose first language is not English must have taken the TOEFL/IELTS exam. A minimum TOEFL score of 600 on the paper-based test or 100 on internet-based test and the recommended minimum IELTS score of 7 is needed to be considered for admission. They will waive the TOEFL and/or IELTS requirement for students who have achieved a score of 670 or higher on the critical reading section of the SAT reasoning test.
