Venue description

The department of Chemistry at Syracuse University is located in the Center for Science and Technology on the eastern edge of campus. CST houses modern research laboratories and office space for all faculty and students, as well as research support services and administration. The teaching laboratories are currently located in Bowne Hall, but with the completion of the new Life Sciences Complex will move to new state-of-the-art facilities adjacent to the research space. The department is well-equipped, with state-of-the-art research facilities, and an outstanding technical support staff. Available instrumentation includes NMR and X-ray crystallography facilities, an ultrafast laser laboratory, several high-resolution spectrophotometers and fluorimeters, electrochemical analyzers, HPLC systems, polarimeters, IR and Raman spectrometers, instrumentation for GC-MS and LC-MS measurements, to name a few. Transmission and scanning electron microscope facilities are also available on campus. Other support services include the Chemistry Stores, and electronics and glass blowing shops, where highly specific research equipment is designed and fabricated.

Graduate students have the option of living in University-owned housing on South Campus or in off-campus apartments or houses. Apartment-style university housing is available in Slocum Heights on South Campus, about two miles from Main Campus. Free shuttle bus service is available. These apartments are furnished, utilities are included, and one communications fee covers phone, cable and internet service. Apartment layouts, virtual tours, and associated costs are all available on the University's Housing. There are also numerous apartment complexes and rental houses that the graduate students choose to live in. Many are within walking distance or on the bus line.
