Course summary
This program emphasizes combining theory and practice, so that students gain knowledge and hands on experience that will assist them in a range of professional endeavors. Students develop critical perspectives to evaluate different communication approaches in diverse situations. Students learn to recognize and choose the effect their actions have on others. The program encourages students to reflect on how people make responsible and ethical choices in a variety of communication contexts. This responsibility requires that they appreciate and respect human differences among cultures, social groups, genders and individuals, and that they create a voice for building personal and public relationships.

Entry requirement for international students
Candidates for admission to undergraduate degree programs should have completed high school-level college preparatory work or otherwise demonstrate sufficient academic preparation to begin college work. Normally, high school courses should include, as a minimum, four years of English, three years of mathematics, three years of natural sciences, three years of social sciences and two years of a foreign language. Consideration for admission is based upon an applicant’s academic background, including high school academic achievement, educational goals and potential for success at Oakland University. Students applying as freshmen must submit scores from the American College Test (ACT). Students should have a TOEFL score of 550 minimum on paper-based, 213 minimum on computer-based and 79 minimum on internet-based. The minimum MELAB score of 77 is required.
