Course summary
The mission of this program is first to exemplify excellence in research, teaching and service, in accordance with the mission of the University of Oklahoma (OU) and the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). Specifically, AFAM has the mission to provide studies with a broad, interdisciplinary education inclusive of a focus on Africa and the traditional areas of study of the African American Studies / Black Studies discipline.

Entry requirement for international students
Students should possess graduation from an accredited high school or they should have received a GED. The high school curricular core requirements should include the following courses: 4 units of English, 3 units of college prep math, 3 units of laboratory science, 3 units of history and citizenship and 2 additional units. An official TOEFL score of 550 on the paper-based test (213 on the computer-based test or 79 on the internet-based test), IELTS score of 6.5 and cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) is required.
