Course summary
The curriculum in economics teaches students the concepts and tools of economic analysis, while providing them with the breadth and flexibility of a broad general education and courses in other areas of interest to the student. Students learn how economic analysis can be applied to major problems facing individuals, firms, the nation and the world today. Majoring in economics prepares students for the workplace of the future, which will require workers who are flexible, adaptable to change, and who can propose practical solutions to solve problems quickly.
Program modules
The modules include ECN 200 Principles of Macroeconomics, ECN 201 Principles of Microeconomics, ECN 210 Principles of Economics, ECN 303 Managerial Economics, ECN 304 Consumer Economics, ECN 405 Econometrics.
Entry requirement for international students
Candidates for admission to undergraduate degree programs should have completed high school-level college preparatory work or otherwise demonstrate sufficient academic preparation to begin college work. Normally, high school courses should include, as a minimum, four years of English, three years of mathematics, three years of natural sciences, three years of social sciences and two years of a foreign language. Consideration for admission is based upon an applicant’s academic background, including high school academic achievement, educational goals and potential for success at Oakland University. Students applying as freshmen must submit scores from the American College Test (ACT). Students should have a TOEFL score of 550 minimum on paper-based, 213 minimum on computer-based and 79 minimum on internet-based. The minimum MELAB score of 77 is required.
