Course summary
This program is designed for career-oriented students who recognize that health and health care in America are major public concerns and who plan to seek employment in one of a variety of administrative, supportive, planning and policy positions. Upon successful completion of this program, students will be prepared for careers in long-term care; hospitals; federal, state and community health agencies and other health-related organizations. After graduation, health administration and policy majors have found employment with such organizations as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Blue-Cross/BlueShield, the University of Maryland Medical Center, Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Maxim Healthcare and Mercy Hospital. Students also have gone on to graduate study at The Johns Hopkins University, George Washington University, Harvard, University of North Carolina, Virginia Commonwealth University and Yale.

The core courses are HAPP 100: Survey of the U.S. Health Care System, HAPP 200: Human Development, Implications for Health and Disease, HAPP 452: Health Care Organization and Delivery, HAPP 495/496: Internship and Internship Seminar, ECON 121: Principles of Accounting I, ENGL 391: Advanced Exposition and Argumentation or ENGL 393: Technical Writing, IS 101: Introduction to Computer Based Systems, IS 295: Introduction to Business Applications, STAT 121: Introduction to Statistics for the Social Sciences or STAT 350: Statistics with Applications in the Biological Sciences or STAT 351: Applied Statistics for Business and Economics or SOCY 301: Analysis of Sociological Data. Track I: Health Services Administration courses are HAPP 497: Hlth. Planning and Administration, HAPP 498: Fin. Man. and Dec. Supp. Health Ser Org, MGMT 210: The Practice of Management, ECON 101: Principles of Microeconomics, ECON 122: Principles of Accounting II, ECON 467: Health Economics, plus 3 electives.
Entry requirement for international students
Students must have a high school diploma or its equivalent and have strong marks. Freshmen who wish to be considered for merit scholarships must sit for the SAT and present a combined critical reading and math score of 1300 or better along with high school marks that are in the top 10 per cent of their class. Otherwise, students educated overseas do not need to sit for the SAT. They must also demonstrate their English Proficiency by TOEFL or IELTS scores. If students TOEFL score falls below 48 on the internet-based, 140 on the computer-based, or 550 on the paper and pencil version, they should consider full-time enrollment in the English Language Center (ELC).
