Course summary
This program not only suits for students who are preparing themselves for graduate study, research or other professional development in the field of the humanities but also for those who are specifically seeking a teaching career in education, combining their language major with a major in foreign language education.
Program modules
The modules include ITAL 204 - Review Grammar and Composition, ITAL 211 - Intermediate Conversation, ITAL 301 - Composition and Style, ITAL 311 - Advanced Conversation. Current Events, ITAL 251 - Aspects of Contemporary Italian Literature and Culture, ITAL 261 - Cuisine, Culture and Society in Italy Yesterday and Today, ITAL 302 - Introduction to Translation, ITAL 350 - Readings in Italian Literature, Four courses at the 400 level .
Entry requirement for international students
Applicants are considered for admission based on the following criteria: academic performance in high school, SAT I and/or ACT scores, class rank (if available), essay, extracurricular activities, school counselor and teacher recommendations, and responses to short answer questions. Maryland residency, special talents and/or abilities, personal experiences and background and Maryland alumni/ae affiliation may also be taken into consideration. As prescribed by the Board of Regents, the university expects all applicants, at a minimum, to have completed by graduation the following course work: four years of English, three years of mathematics, including algebra I or applied math I and II, formal logic or geometry, three years of history or social science, three years of science in at least two different areas, with at least two lab experiences, and two years of a foreign language. A fourth year of mathematics is strongly recommended.
