The Department of Music at East Tennessee State University was established in 1946 and is a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music. Students choosing music education will identify a specialization in instrumental, vocal, or keyboard/vocal. These student must also complete the core courses required as part of the professional education program. Students may also pursue a minor in music. The Department of Music also offers training in the Suzuki method for flute. Courses in this program meet certification guidelines of the Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA).

The staff of the Department of Housing and Residence Life at East Tennessee State University welcomes the unique opportunity of providing residents with activities that increase their understanding of diversity and enhance their social and emotional well-being. There are numerous benefits which come from on-campus living. Residence hall facilities offer a variety of features to suit the individual needs. All rooms are equipped with Twin Beds, Mini Blinds, Closets, Chairs, Room Sinks, Desks, Storage Space with Drawers, Cable Television Hookup, Telephone Connection (student must supply telephone), Internet Access. Additional features available to most students include air conditioning. All halls have kitchen facilities, laundry facilities, carpeted hallways, vending machines, outside bicycle racks, and a common lounge/lobby area equipped with a color television. Living on campus offers more opportunities for students to meet people and develop friendships. When the cost for on-campus living is compared to transportation cost, deposits, and monthly rent for off-campus housing, the cost of living on campus is generally much lower. Students may also elect to pay semester rent and fees in three installments.
