The mission of the Philosophy and Religious Studies Department is, through its several programs , to do what philosophy has always done, namely, nurture the development of reason-namely, a thoughtful, informed, and critically reflective intellectual conscience that is ever ready to identify and reassess basic assumptions-within the College community generally but most especially within our students.

Accommodation details

Accommodation is provided in four residence halls specifically designed for freshman living experiences. Heritage Hall and Landers Hall feature community living options which include double rooms, shared community bathrooms, and public areas for group activities. In addition, the suite style rooms of Barnum Hall, the more traditional rooms of Maaske Hall will serve as home to the freshmen. There is also possibility that Gentle hall will be designated for freshman housing as well. The University also offers approximately 450 living spaces for upper-class students. Upper-class students are housed primarily in the suite style rooms of Butler Hall, Gentle Hall, the more traditional rooms of Arbuthnot Hall, and the Arbor Park apartments, which are comprised of Cedar, Noble and Spruce Halls. These coeducational halls each house 70 to 210 students.
