Course summary

This program curriculum emphasizes the application of information technology, teamwork, problem-solving and critical thinking for decision making. Students in this concentration learn about the basics of computer hardware, software and networking and how to apply that technical knowledge in the business workplace. For graduates, there is great flexibility to work in IT across a number of fields and types of companies, in contrast to computer science and computer engineering programs which focus on programming and lead primarily to development and programming jobs at technology-specific companies.

Program modules

The following classes are offered in IS/IT: BUS 440: Database Management; BUS 441: Computer Networking; BUS 442: Information Systems Development; BUS 443: Decision Support Systems (formerly BUS 495 M); BUS 444: Systems Analysis and Design (formerly BUS 495 X); BUS 449: IT Capstone**. *BUS 340 is a prerequisite for all IT concentration courses. **BUS 440 should be completed prior to or during the same semester as BUS 449.
