Entry requirement for international students
Students should be a high school graduate and have not attended college or university. They should also have their class rank and ACT or SAT scores and applicants whose native is not English must have a minimum TOEFL score of 550 on the paper-based test, 213 on the computer-based test, or 79 on the internet-based test.

The Department of Social and Cultural Analysis offers programs of study in anthropology, archaeology, geography, gerontology, and sociology. The department curriculum is designed to produce graduates who can reason, gather information, communicate, solve problems, and adapt easily to change. Such individuals will be well-equipped for success in graduate or professional programs, as well as the world of work.

Living on campus at SFA means living in a community of students. They will be meeting and interacting with many different types of people from different backgrounds, cultures, and lifestyles. Finding the place on campus is ahead of them. Each community has residence life staff members to help and support students to find their place in the community. The staff is well trained, energetic, and dedicated to make their experience living on campus education and positive. Academic Enrichment Center is located in Hall 10 (female) and in Mays Hall (11) (male). This is equipped for students who desire a structured living environment designed to enhance educational progress and ease the transition to a university campus. Residents in these halls agree to participate in regular tutoring and study hall sessions. Academic Excellence Center is located in Wisely Hall 5(coed). This program is for students who desire a stimulating living environment designed to challenge academically talented students. Incoming freshmen students must have a minimum of a 1220 SAT score or 27 ACT score and graduate in the top 25% of their high school class. Co-ed Halls are North Hall (9), South Hall (12, Hall 14, Steen Hall (17), and Hall 20. University Woods Apartments are available to students who are at least 21 years of age or have at least 60 completed hours. Students are also eligible to live in these apartments if they are married, have custody of a child, or have permission from the Residence Life Director. Students living at University Woods have a contract period of 12-months. All residence halls at Stephen F. Austin are non-smoking. Smoking is not permitted in any common area of the residence halls, or the front porch area of the building. Each residence hall is air-conditioned and each room is equipped with computer, television, and telephone connections; however, students must provide their own electronics.
