Course summary
This Program provide concentrations in various areas such as actuarial science, management science/operation research, statistics, teaching, and preparation for graduate studies. It to prepare students for employment in business, industry, and government immediately after graduation, but graduate study in mathematics or related disciplines is also a viable alternative. Mathematical modeling is emphasized, and all students are required to take courses in statistics and computer science. The professionally oriented Actuarial Science specialty offers career opportunities in the insurance industry, and graduates of the program are prepared for up to two exams administered by the Society of Actuaries. Management Science/Operations Research is designed for students interested in applying mathematics, statistics, and computer techniques to problems within business and industry. Graduate studies preparation provides the broad mathematical background requisite for postgraduate studies in mathematical sciences, statistics, or related disciplines. Advanced study will lead to increased opportunities found within higher education, business, and industry. The Statistics concentration prepares a graduate for employment as a bachelor’s-level statistician in state or federal government, academic research, or business. Also, it provides students with a background for continued study.
Entry requirement for international students
Students must have academic records with transcripts, a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 on the academic test or minimum TOEFL score of 80 on the Internet-based TOEFL, 213 on the computer-based exam, or 550 on the paper exam, 530 or higher on the critical reading or writing section in SAT, IB score of 5 or higher on the English language exam. Entry to Major requires at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA (4.0 scale).
