Course summary
This program is dedicated to graduating mechanical engineers who: practice mechanical engineering in a broad range of industries; pursue advanced education, research and development, and other creative and innovative efforts in science, engineering, and technology, as well as other professional careers; conduct themselves in a responsible, professional, and ethical manner; and participate as leaders in their fields of expertise and in activities that support service and economic development nationally and throughout the world. Highly qualified students are permitted to pursue an honors course consisting of independent study under the guidance of a member of the faculty. Upon graduation the student may wish to enter employment in industry or government, or continue with graduate study. Alternatively, training in mechanical engineering may be viewed as a basis for a career in business, patent law, medicine, or management. Thus, the department’s undergraduate program provides a sound foundation for a variety of professional endeavors.

Entry requirement for international students
Students must submit all academic records for the last four years of secondary school, all national examination results (such as "0" levels, "A" levels, baccalaureate, abitur, international baccalaureate, etc.), and a diploma showing proof of graduation, if available at the time of application. If students first language is not English or if they have received a bachelor's degree from a country where English is not the official language, they will be required to submit a current score of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A minimum score of 600 on paper-based test , 250 on computer based test and 100 on internet-based test is necessary for admission to Columbia. A minimum IELTS score of 7.0 is also required.
