Course summary

This program provides students with an opportunity to pursue studies in Greek and Roman literature, history, archaeology, art, philosophy, and religion, without concentrating on the ancient languages, although some study in Latin and/or Greek is strongly encouraged. The Classics Department offers a concentration in archaeology under the classical culture major. Students may contact the department for details. This program provides students with an opportunity to study the archaeology, languages, art and history of the Greeks and Romans; the program also offers students archaeological field experience on a classical site.

Program modules

The courses are: CLAS 1000/CLAS 1000H or CLAS 1010/CLAS 1010 H, CLAS (ANTH) 2000, CLAS 1020/CLAS 1020H Classsical Mythology, CLAS (ANTH) 2000. Classical Archaeology, ARHI 2100 or ARHI 2100H Monuments of World Art, CLAS 1000/CLAS 1000H Greek Culture (if not taken in Area C), CLAS 1010/CLAS 1010H Roman Culture (if not taken in Area C), CLAS 1020/CLAS 1020H (if not taken in previous category of Area F), CLAS (ANTH) 2000 (if not taken in previous category of Area F), CLAS (LING) 2010. Nature of the English Vocabulary, CMLT 2210 or CMLT 2250H Western World Literature I, HIST 2301 or HIST 2311H History of Western Society to 1500, LING 2100/LING 2100H The Study of Language, PHIL 1000/PHIL 1000H Introduction to Philosophy, RELI 1001 or RELI 2001H Introduction to Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

Entry requirement for international students

Students should be a high school graduate. They should have an official SAT-I verbal score of 430 or higher; an official TOEFL score of at least 80 on the Internet-based exam or 213 on the computer-based version. TOEFL scores must be less than two years old if you have not been studying at a U.S. institution since taking the exam; an official IELTS score of 7.0 or higher and should take equivalent of English 1101 and 1102 (first-year composition) at an accredited U.S. institution and earn a minimum 2.5 combined GPA for the two courses.
