Course summary
This program offers comprehensive training in modern and ballet dance styles. Ballet and modern classes are offered as primary techniques with jazz, tap and musical theatre styles as secondary. Students study a balanced and integrated course load which combines dance with a strong liberal studies core. This program teaches the cultural, theatrical and performing aspects of dance. It emphasizes the development of working methods which are both safe and correct as it encourages students to explore and develop their personal creativity within a contemporary understanding of the dance field.
Program modules
The modules include DANC 159 Intro to Dance, DANC 228 Music for Dance, DANC 338 Dance Kinesiology and Injury Prev, DANC 349 History of Dance: 20th C and etc., DANC 448 Dance Pedagogy, DANC 300 Composition.
Entry requirement for international students
The students must have the equivalent of a B average or higher in high school. The SAT and ACT are not required for international students, however the SAT is highly recommended. Test scores are influential not only for admission but also for scholarship consideration. A TOEFL score of 523 (Paper-based exam), 70 (Internet-based exam) or 193 (Computer-based exam) is required. An IELTS score of 6.0 is acceptable.
