Course summary
This program offers the opportunity to improve the education and general life experience of young children in and out of the classroom. The early childhood education major prepares students to help children from birth to third grade.
Program modules
The modules include EDUC 180 Introduction to Education, EDUC 149/GEOG 105 Select one: Econ in K-8 Clsrm, Geography, ENGL 110 English Composition I, MATH 130 Number Systems and Related Topics, Various Chem/Earth/Physical Science/ lab, BIOL 102/102L Biology with laboratory, COMS 110 Speech/Communication, CONS 285 Elementary Music Methods, ENGL 225 English Composition II, TCH-ED 385 Teaching and Learning with Technology.
Entry requirement for international students
Freshmen and transfer students may apply to UMKC as pre-education and are admitted based on general University requirements. Candidates for admission to the School of Education are required to have completed the majority of their general education and pre-education coursework with a 2.75 cumulative GPA at the time of application (the priority deadline is March 1 of each year for admission the following summer). Applicants who have graduated from high school within five years of admission to teacher education program must also submit a score for either the ACT or SAT exam. A passing score on all sections of the College Basic Academic Subjects Examination (C-BASE) is required of all students.
