Course summary
In this program, students will learn to analyze a situation, figure out what is important and determine what can be abstracted away. The economics curriculum stresses the development of general problem-solving skills: finding, gathering and interpreting information; predicting the consequences of decisions; evaluating alternative courses of action; and analyzing the management of resources in both the public and private sectors. At the same time, economics students learn about the institutions and rules that shape daily life the monetary system, the stock and bond markets and the regulatory system that mandates warning labels on cigarette packs and seat belts in automobiles. The concentration in public policy prepares students for analytical and managerial careers in both the public and private sectors, as well as providing a firm foundation for graduate or professional studies.

Entry requirement for international students
Students will be considered on the basis of overall strength of academic preparation; grades in individual subjects; overall high school average; and SAT or ACT scores. Applicants who have taken the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) examination must submit test scores and can be eligible provided they have taken the required academic units in high school. The college recommends four years of English, four years of social studies, three years of mathematics, two years of a foreign language, two years of laboratory sciences, and one year of performing or visual arts as the academic preparation needed for success in college. International applicants whose primary language is not English must demonstrate a firm command of the English language by scoring a minimum of 500 on the TOEFL.
