Course summary

This program in art education is designed to provide undergraduates and post-degree students with learning experiences that will enable them to become successful artist-teachers. This curriculum leads to a bachelor's degree and a Michigan Provisional Teaching Certificate which enables the holder to teach art in all grades, kindergarten through grade twelve, and subjects for which the holder has minor certification, in grades seven through twelve.

Entry requirement for international students

A minimum score of 550 TOEFL, 5.5 Oral, and 5.5 TWE are required. If taking the computer-based TOEFL, a minimum score of 213, in addition to a 5.5 Oral and TWE score, is required. If taking the Internet-based TOEFL, a score of 79-80 is required. Students may also take the University of Michigan English Proficiency Exam (MELAB). The minimum MELAB score required for Wayne State admission is 85, as well as a TWE score of 5.5. The requirement for first-year admission is a 2.75 cumulative grade-point average (on a scale of 1.0 to 4.0, with 4.0 being the highest grade). To be considered for first-year admission, all graduates from secondary institutions must complete the pre-university educational curricula in their own country, including all internal/external state and governmental examinations required for university. Any applicant, regardless of grade level, may be required to submit SAT or ACT scores if admissibility is not clearly demonstrated on the basis of previous high school coursework.
