Course summary
This program will shape young minds is hard work. However, the exhilaration and rewards of being an elementary school teacher will quickly remind you that the work was well worth the commitment. UMKC prepares students to go into classrooms for first through sixth grades.
Program modules
The modules include EDUC 180 Introduction to Education, ENGL 110 English Composition I, ENVS 110R/110L Understanding the Earth and Lab, HIST 201 or 202 World History, MATH 130 Number Systems and Related Topics, BIOL 102/102L Biology with laboratory, COMS 110 Speech/Communications, CONS 285 Elementary Music Methods, MATH 140 Geometry for Elementary Teachers.
Entry requirement for international students
Freshmen and transfer students may apply to UMKC as pre-education and are admitted based on general University requirements. Candidates for admission to the School of Education are required to have completed the majority of their general education and pre-education coursework with a 2.75 cumulative GPA at the time of application (the priority deadline is March 1 of each year for admission the following summer). Applicants who have graduated from high school within five years of admission to teacher education program must also submit a score for either the ACT or SAT exam. A passing score on all sections of the College Basic Academic Subjects Examination (C-BASE) is required of all students.
