Course summary
This program intended to build a solid technical foundation in craftsmanship and the handling of the material. Traditional throwing and hand-building techniques are taught in the beginning classes, followed by glaze-making, mold making and slip casting. As the student progresses to the upper level classes it expected that the student’s intellectual ideas, in keeping with a post-modern and multi-discipline art world, will drive the student to transcend the medium and its perceived boundaries. The traditions and history of ceramics are referenced and embraced even as students are encouraged to master and include other disciplines, in order to expand their ability to use the ceramic medium as a fine arts discipline.
Entry requirement for international students
Students must have completed minimum high school curriculum such as six semesters of mathematics and social studies, four to six semesters of laboratory science, four semesters of foreign language and eight semesters of English. They must have an overall grade point average in all academic coursework. They should possess SAT score of 480 or higher on the Critical Reading section and ACT score of 20 or higher on the English section. International students whose native language is not in English should have the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a score of 550 on paper based exam, 213 on computer based exam, 79 on internet based exam and IELTS score of 6.5 or higher is required for admission.

Purdue University provides the on campus housing for students with many housing options like University Residences, Cooperative housing, Fraternities, sororities, off-campus apartments and houses. Living in the University Residences provides students with many opportunities to develop their leadership abilities and they strive to provide a safe environment. Residences provide the facilities such as Bulletin Boards, Check-Cashing and ATMs, Copy Machine, Laundry and Vending, Mailing, Repairs and Maintenance. The Residences has the Dining Services which provides a variety of convenient options offering delicious, nutritious food. Students choose from a number of dining locations that are close to class or home. They can choose to dine buffet style in the dining courts, take out from an On-the-Go or grab a bite from the late-night restaurants or mini-marts. University Residences offers a variety of meal plans to fit their busy schedule. Students may choose from the 10, 12, 15 or 20-meal traditional plans. Cooperative housing is where students live and work together to promote friendship, leadership, and life skills. Cooperative houses have between 14 and 60 members which share responsibilities such as cleaning and preparing meals to maintain a comfortable and affordable living environment.
