Course summary
The Art History submajor allows students to specialize in the history of art within the broader art program. Each art history major must take two introductory survey courses which introduce the chronological range of Western art history from prehistory to the present. Students must take six additional upper division courses, one each in Ancient, Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, 19th Century and 20th Century art. Students must also choose two additional elective courses, and take a course in art history research methodology. Majors must also complete four semesters of foreign language, and complete an English competency requirement.

Entry requirement for international students
Students must complete secondary education consisting of a college preparatory program with an above average academic record. Students are required to submit scores from either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (minimum score paper based: 500, computer based: 173+, internet based: 61) or the Michigan Test of English Language Proficiency (minimum score 70). For evaluation of transfer credit from colleges/universities attended outside of the United States, submit transcripts to Educational Credentials Evaluators, Inc.
