Course summary

This program prepares students for a wide range of professional engineering careers in such areas as research and development, design, facilities operation and maintenance, management, and production. Graduates of the program will be prepared to apply engineering sciences, mathematics, computational methods, modern experimental methods, and effective communication skills to problems of interest in industry and government or scholarly topics. Employment opportunities for graduates are extensive. These include energy and utility, manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, defense and space, research and development, and many others. The emphasis in the curriculum is on engineering sciences (solid mechanics, thermal sciences, fluid mechanics, and materials science), mathematics, engineering analysis, engineering design, general sciences, and communication balanced with general education topics and electives.

Entry requirement for international students

Applicant should have an Associate of Applied Science or a similar degree from an accredited institution and demonstrate basic academic skills in English and mathematics at NMSU. They should have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0. International applicants must submit a minimum 173 (computer-based), 61 (internet-based) or 500 (paper-based) TOEFL score and reports must be for testing less than two years old. Additional acceptable proof of English proficiency is an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) minimum score of 5.0 is also required.
