Course summary
This program prepares Christian men and women to critically evaluate the social and political systems of the world with confidence and discernment. The integration of the Christian faith will be a central component of the education they achieve. Upon graduating, students will be in a position to put their knowledge and skills to work in service to Christ and government. The government and politics of the United States is one of the longest and perhaps most successful democratic forms of governance in the world. Far from perfect, the longevity and success of American government and politics is due in part to the genius of its founding and brilliance of its institutions. The American government and politics emphasis investigates the origin, creation, and historical development of the U.S. constitutional institutions as well as their contemporary existence. Attention is given to the public policy process and bureaucratic politics and their relation to the national government. This emphasis befits students interested in postgraduate education in American government and politics as well as in careers in local, state, or national government, the private sector, journalism and media, the non-profit industry, and many others. Students will be able to: display the ability to integrate biblical truth with the study of government; evidence knowledge of the foundational approaches to and concepts in the study of government; evidence knowledge of the philosophical and moral foundations of government; exhibit critical thinking skills in their analysis of historical texts, documents, and contemporary issues and demonstrate competence in the methods and tools of original quantitative and qualitative research and the ability to formulate and express the results.
