Course summary

This program is devoted to introducing students to the rich traditions of ceramic practice while encouraging the use of materials and methods as vehicles for individual expression in contemporary art making. Courses include wheel throwing, clay and glazes, clay as canvas, and an interdisciplinary, digitally-based course on three-dimensional modeling.

Program modules

Modules include: 112: Ceramics, 212: Wheel Throwing, 213: Clay and Glazes, 312: Advanced Ceramics, 412: Topics in Advanced Ceramics, 499: Clay as Canvas, 499: 3D/Actual and Virtual, 208abx: Three-dimensional Art Workshop: Ceramics Workshop.

Entry requirement for international students

Applicants should have GPA of 3.5 in the major and an overall GPA of 3.3. They should have TOEFL scores of 600 or more in paper-based test, 250 in computer-based test or 100 in Internet-based TOEFL (IBT) with not less than 20 (out of 30) in listening, reading, writing, and speaking components. Students need to have a score of 600 or more in Critical Reading section of the SAT.
