Course summary

This program cooperates with the various components of the Economics Department in an attempt to achieve academic excellence in conformity with the mission, objectives, and goals of the Department and the University. It seeks to provide our students with a clear understanding of the basic principles of economic theory and policy, and to train them in the utilization of mathematics, statistics and modern technology as tools of economic analysis. The program is also designed to provide its economics majors with some basic knowledge in a selected number of specialized fields, such as labor economics, urban economics, monetary economics (money and banking), and international economics, and with the training they need for more advanced work in the economics discipline.

The modules are: ECON-001: Principles of Economics I, ECON-002: Principles of Economics II, ECON-170: Intermediate Microeconomic Theory, ECON-171: Intermediate Macroeconomic Theory, ECON-180: Statistics for Business and Economics, ECON-184: Introduction to Econometrics, MATH-026: Applied Calculus, FRSM-001: Freshman Orientation, ENGL-002: Freshman Composition (English), ENGL-003: Freshman Composition (English), ENGL-009: Technical Writing, ENGL-129: Advanced Essay Writing, PHIL-051: Principles of Reasoning, PHIL-053: Scientific Method, PHIL-055: Introduction to Philosophy, PHIL-057: Introduction to Ethics, PHIL-159: Knowledge and Value, MUTP-100: Blacks in the Arts, AFRO-005/006: Afro American Studies.

Entry requirement for international students

Students must have official transcripts of CSC, CXC, GCE, WASC, CGSE or official final secondary school records, results from the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Test Assessment (ACT), international students from non-English speaking country must have scores from Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
