Course summary
This program is excellent preparation for graduate work in economics, business, law and other fields. An applied approach helps students develop the technical and quantitative skills necessary for graduate study in many of today’s expanding career fields in business and research. It requires a minimum of 120 semester hours, of which 42 must be advanced, and fulfillment of degree requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree.
Program modules
The modules include ECON 1100 Principles of Economics 3, ECON 1110 Principles of Economics 3, ECON 3550 Intermediate Micro-Theory 3, ECON 3560 Intermediate Macro-Theory 3 and ECON 4510 History of Economic Thought 3, plus 15 additional upper-division hours above the 3000 level, including at least 9 hours from the following: ECON 4020 Money and Financial Institutions 3, ECON 4140 Managerial Economics 3, ECON 4150 Public Economics 3, ECON 4180 The Economics of Health Care 3, ECON 4290 Labor Economics 3, ECON 4420 Open Economy Macroeconomics 3, ECON 4460 Industrial Organization and Public Policy 3, ECON 4500 The Economics of Sports 3, ECON 4550 Law and Economics 3, ECON 4650 Urban and Regional Economics 3, ECON 4870 Introduction to Econometrics 3, ECON 4875 Empirical Linear Modeling 3, must earn at least a B in ECON 1100 and ECON 1110 and at least a C in all economics courses above the 3000 level, Math Requirement: MATH 1190 or MATH 1400 or MATH 1710, Statistics Requirement: ECON 4630 or MATH 3680 (either with a grade of C or better).
Entry requirement for international students
Students must have graduated from an accredited high school and strongly recommend that students take the following classes in high school. Students should have a strong ‘B’ average and have completed three units of English and two units each of solid mathematics, social science and natural science. Students should have a minimum combined SAT (combined critical reading/verbal and math) score of 1180 or ACT composite of 26. International students should have obtained a minimum TOEFL score of 79 (Internet-based), score of 550 (Paper-based) and score of 213 (Computer-based) and a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 overall band and also should have minimum MELAB (official version) score of 80 or higher.
