Students are encouraged to then view their area of concentration from a global perspective so they can relate their knowledge to the larger trends and issues that affect the contemporary world. Trends and issues covered may include: the transnational interactions of peoples, cultures, economies and politics; the globalizing process of communication; technological and environmental changes; the search for world order, law and human rights; the sometimes violent ethnic and religious response to what is perceived as cultural and economic homogenization on a global scale.
