Course summary
This program prepares for entry into law school, graduate school, legal assistant programs, and/or a variety of careers in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. Students engage in the study of various aspects of the law to which the social sciences contribute special understanding. Areas of study may include constitutional law, criminal law process, legal history, the philosophy of law, the organizational structure of the legal system, and the impact of legal institutions upon the broader society.

The modules include EC 360 Private Enterprise and Public Policy; EC 425 Law and Economics; GBL 323 Introduction to Business Law; HST 318 United States Constitutional History; PHL 354 Philosophy of Law; PLS 320 The American Judicial Process; ANP 436 Globalization and Justice: Issues in Political and Legal Anthropology; ANP 439 Human Rights: Anthropological Perspective; ANP 441 Osteology and Forensic Anthropology; CJ 210 Introduction to Forensic Science; CJ 220 Criminology (also SOC 220) (requires CJ departmental override to enroll); CJ 275 Criminal Procedure; CJ 355 Juvenile Justice (requires CJ departmental approval to enroll); CJ 421 Minorities, Crime and Social Policy; CJ 425 Women and Criminal Justice.
Entry requirement for international students
Students whose first language is not English and who are admitted to Michigan State University with regular admission must meet one of the following language proficiency requirements. They should have obtained a minimum TOEFL score of 79 on internet based test (with no sub score below 17) and 550 on paper based test (with no sub score below 52). An IELTS score of 6.5 or higher is required. They should have secured an SAT critical reading score of 480 or higher and an ACT exam sub score of 18 or higher on the English section. Average score of at least 80 with no subs core below 80 is required for Michigan State University English Language Test (MSUELT) and an average score of 80 or higher is required for Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB).
