Entry requirement for international students
Students whose first language is not English and who are admitted to Michigan State University with regular admission must meet one of the following language proficiency requirements. They should have obtained a minimum TOEFL score of 79 on internet based test (with no sub score below 17) and 550 on paper based test (with no sub score below 52). An IELTS score of 6.5 or higher is required. They should have secured an SAT critical reading score of 480 or higher and an ACT exam sub score of 18 or higher on the English section. Average score of at least 80 with no subs core below 80 is required for Michigan State University English Language Test (MSUELT) and an average score of 80 or higher is required for Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB).

Accommodation in residence halls are more self-reliant environment of apartment-style living, and all housing facilities are staffed with talented Residence Life and University Housing staff that are here to help the students. Students who live on campus get better grades, are involved in campus activities, have more interaction with faculty members, feel more a part of the campus community and are more likely to graduate. The halls are Brody Neighborhood; East Neighborhood; Red Cedar Neighborhood; River Trail Neighborhood; South Neighborhood; West Circle Neighborhood; University Apartments and University Village. All residence hall rooms have furnishings, window coverings, cable TV hook-up, high-speed internet connections (Ethernet), basic telephone service including unlimited campus calling, 400 free local calls per month, caller ID capability and voicemail. Lofts are not encouraged, but are permitted, provided they meet the loft regulations located at www.uh.msu.edu/resources/documents/loft_guide.pdf. The halls are equipped with modular loftable furniture and do not permit personal lofts: Case, Holden, Holmes, Hubbard, Shaw, Snyder and Phillips. Lofts are not permitted in Owen Hall, University Village and University Apartments. Smoking is not permitted inside residence hall buildings, on decks, balconies or patios; however, it is permitted outside at least 25 feet from the building.
