Course summary
The metals program provides students with a solid conceptual and technical education. Students are exposed to current international trends in contemporary metalsmithing through visiting artists, exhibitions, and field trips. In the metals department they annually schedule several lectures / workshops. Visiting metalsmiths have included Cynthia Cousens, Marjorie Shick, Pat Flynn, Bettina Dittleman, Kim Cridler, Bruce Metcalf, Christina Smith and others. Every two years the Department of Art gallery hosts a curated metals exhibition. These exhibits have featured the work of many prominent national and international metal artists whose work includes jewelry, holloware and sculpture.
Program modules
The courses are - 2303 Metals I, 2313 Metals II, 3303 Metals III, 3313 Metals IV, 3323 Metals V, 4303 Metals VI, 4313 Metals VII, 4323 Special Problems in Metals.
Entry requirement for international students
Students applying for this program must have official transcripts from the schools or colleges attended. If English is the secondary language of the students then they must write SAT or Act exams. If English is not the secondary language of the students then they must write TOEFL exams. Applicants whose primary language is Spanish and who lack the proficiency in English must write PAA (Prueba de Aptitud Academica). The minimum required test scores: for - SAT 920, for ACT - 20 and for TOEFL - 500. For Spanish students the minimum TOEFL score is 1000. These test scores must be sent to the university directly by the testing agency.
