This department is an accredited institutional member of NASM (National Association of Schools of Music). Faculty members of this department are active regionally, nationally, and internationally as solo and collaborative performers, conductors, recording artists, scholars, composers, educators, lecturers, adjudicators, and mentors, while adhering to NASM standards regarding creative and scholarly research and service. These include music making, the study of music and its influences, the advancement of music pedagogy, and the facilitation of musical activities. Department faculty works closely with students to reach the highest levels of artistic expression, allowing students to build a versatile set of skills that will ensure success in their chosen area of the profession.

This university provides on-campus housing through its residence halls and apartments. The Algonquin Hall, a suite style building available to upperclassmen and freshmen, renovated in 2007 to update the facilities and provides solely single rooms. Each side of the suite accommodates 2 residents who share a common living area. Usually, 4 students share a bathroom facility. Student is provided a microwave and compact refrigerator. The Business and Professional Woman’s Scholarship House was established to provide campus housing for women with strong academic promise and substantial outside financial assistance in order to attend FAU. It is a cooperative living/learning facility where 16 women share leadership experience, develop life skills, and community responsibilities. The Glades Park Towers is a suite-style residence hall consisting of both double and single rooms. Usually, 4 residents share a bathroom facility. All room in here is fully furnished, and all bedrooms feature unlimited access Ethernet connections and basic cable television service. Additionally, it offers a 24 hour desk operation, Wireless Ethernet access, floor study lounges, multipurpose room with large screen TV, laundry facilities, conference room, computer lab, classroom and convenience store. The Heritage Park Towers is a suite-style residence hall for both freshmen and upperclassmen, comprised of fully furnished double and single bedrooms, and in most cases, four residents share a bathroom. The Indian River Towers is a suite-style residence hall featuring both double and single rooms with a living area and 2 bathroom facilities, mostly instances, 2 residents share a bathroom, and bedrooms are equipped with unlimited access Ethernet connections and basic cable television service. The University Village Apartment community accommodates more than 500 upper-division students. First-year college students are not eligible to reside in the apartment community.
