The undergraduate major in Applied Developmental Psychology (ADP) emphasizes developing the skills necessary for implementing and evaluating effective programs for children, youth, and families. Course work includes the study of professional issues, program design and evaluation, counseling skills, and qualitative research methods. The Program allows for a focus on Child Life hospital work, group care, family support an intervention, administration, play intervention and therapy.

Entry requirement for international students

Department of Psychology in Education (PSYED) prepares graduates for professional careers in teaching, research, and professional practice. Master's and doctoral studies are offered in Applied Developmental Psychology and in Research Methodology. Graduates receiving doctoral degrees serve in academic and research capacities in universities, government agencies, public and private research and testing centers. Master's study in Research Methodology prepares personnel for positions in testing and research. Master's study in Applied Developmental Psychology prepares students for roles as program administrators and child development specialists. The department offers a bachelor's degree with a major in Applied Developmental Psychology. While students are encouraged to pursue graduate study on a full-time basis, the programs offered in Psychology in Education are designed to accommodate the needs of part-time students. The faculty is ready to assist students in formulating an educational plan designed to help them realize their professional aspirations.

Students in their first year at the University are housed in the first year residence halls: Hemlock, Hickory, Laurel, Maple, and Oak Halls. These facilities are newly renovated and feature double rooms arranged in suites, meaning that two rooms share a semi-private bathroom. The first year residence halls each feature a card access security system that only allows the students who live in a particular building and University staff to access that building. The first year residence halls are located convenient to the Student Union. Students who return to campus after their first year are housed in the following housing areas: College Park Apartments, Living Learning Center, North and South Lodges, Townhouses and Willow Hall. These housing options provide an opportunity for returning students to live in a variety of settings, from apartment and suit style to more traditional double rooms.
