Course summary
The option provides students with an academic background in clinical, community, and administrative dietetics. Students selecting the Dietetics option will also complete specific courses in medical nutrition therapy, foodservice management, and food science. Experiential learning is an important component of a dietitian's education. Therefore, students are encouraged to gain paid or volunteer experience in a healthcare facility, community nutrition program, or foodservice institution.

Entry requirement for international students
Admission to the University of Rhode Island is competitive, and applications are reviewed as soon as complete credentials are submitted. Each admission candidate is given individual consideration. However, a minimum of 18 units of college (secondary school) preparatory work are expected: 4 in English, 3 in algebra and plane geometry, 2 in a physical or natural science, 2 in history or social science, 2 in the same foreign language, 5 Additional units to total 18. The ACT or SAT test is required for freshman candidates. Students whose first language is not English are encouraged to submit official TOEFL examination results to supplement the SAT verbal score. Applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit the official results of a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or the IELTS (International English Language Testing System). Minimum requirements for the TOEFL are paper-based 550, computer-based 213 or iBt score of 79. Minimum requirement for the IELTS is a 6.5.
