Entry requirement for international students

Students to be admitted should have graduated or will graduate from an accredited or approved high school and do not have any transferable college credits, and may fulfill the following admission requirements; Earn a 2.50 grade point average (GPA) in the following high school academic units: Emphasis on composition, rhetoric, and American, English, and world literature, Algebra or higher level mathematics, including first- and second-year algebra, geometry, analytic geometry, trigonometry, pre calculus, probability and statistics, and other advanced mathematics, World history, geography, U.S. history, economics, government and law. Biology, chemistry, or physics, with at least two years in a laboratory science. A combined score from the SAT Critical Reading and Math sections of at least a 1040, or an ACT composite score of at least 22, or a Nevada Advanced High School Diploma. All applicants whose native language is not English MUST take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A score of 500 or better is required for general admission (173 on computer-based test or 61 on IBT), 525 or better to major in Hotel Administration (195 or higher on computer-based test or 70 on IBT).

Venue description

Department is housed in the Chemistry Building, located near the center of campus within easy walking distance of the other Science and Engineering buildings. Dedicated in 1970, the building has won architectural awards for its external design and was remodeled in 1994. The Department has all the standard equipment expected in modern chemistry laboratories (UV-vis spectrometers, AA spectrometers, HPLC's, GC's, etc.), in addition to specialized research equipment, including a 300-MHz NMR , a GC-MS, a GC-FTIR, low-level alpha, beta and gamma radiation counting equipment, etc. Because of strong collaboration with the Harry Reid Center for Environmental Studies (HRC) and with the EPA laboratory located on the campus (next door to the Chemistry Building), the facilities of these organizations are often available for both graduate and undergraduate research projects, as well as serving as potential sources of employment for students.

Accommodation is provided at four living complexes, where the students feel at home on campus. Tonopah Complex has a capacity of 435 residents with features such as Computer lab, conference room, and study lounge, TV/social lounges, Laundry rooms, Recreation area and Snack vending areas. Upper Class complex has a capacity of approximately 400 residents and includes facilities such as Laundry room, Study lounge, TV/social lounge, Recreation area and Snack vending area. Dayton Complex has a capacity of approximately 475 students and includes facilities such as large laundry rooms, Computer lab, Conference room, Recreation area and Snack vending areas. All residence halls including common-use areas and individual rooms are non-smoking. This includes lounges, study rooms, laundry rooms, corridors, stairwells recreation rooms, and elevators.
