The mission of the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering is to provide a broad-based education in chemical engineering and related fields for highly qualified undergraduates: to accomplish, in conjunction with a program of graduate education, research recognized by peers as among the most significant in the world and to serve society through chemical engineering leadership in matters of national policy, education, professionalism and economic development.

The University of Illinois provides a variety of housing options for undergraduate, graduate students, guest and visiting scholars and students with families. It offers Beckwith residence halls, living-learning communities, Ashton Woods apartments and private certified housing to the undergraduate students. The privately owned certified housing units on campus are home to over 2,400 students. Located on or near the campus, all are within walking distance to the Quad, classrooms and libraries. Undergraduate students with 30 or more credits are eligible to apply for a lease at Ashton Woods apartments, which offer two-bedroom unfurnished apartments, cable, High-Speed Internet, Off-Street lighted Parking. Water/Sewer/Trash is included in the rent and laundry facilities in each building. Daniels Hall, Ashton Woods apartments, Goodwin-Green apartments, Orchard Downs apartments and Sherman Hall are offered to the graduate students. To support the academic success of graduate students and students with families, it also offers apartment communities at Ashton Woods, Goodwin-Green, and Orchard Downs to accommodate their unique needs. The residence hall dining centers are located throughout campus. The university's special free-flow dining service allows students to eat any meal in any residence hall dining location. They offer a choice of dining plans with various degrees of flexibility.
